While they are relatively new, lithium batteries offer promising features and benefits that make them far better than lead-acid batteries. When it comes to cycles, lead-acid batteries are good for 500 and 1,000 cycles. Lithium batteries, on the other hand, can deliver 2,000 cycles at 100 percent depth of discharge and at least 5,000 cycles at 80 percent to 90 percent depth of discharge.
Lead-acid batteries charge slowly—and this can be a problem in the long run. This won’t be an issue if you use a 12-volt lithium RV battery because these batteries boast faster charging times. You only need to wait for a few hours to get a fully charged lithium battery. In fact, if you have a good battery charger, you should have a fully charged battery in less than 60 minutes.
When charging a lead-acid battery, experts suggest exhausting up to 50 percent of the rated capacity. If you go beyond this recommended capacity, the life of your lead-acid battery life will deplete and untimely damage may occur. It’s never recommended to drain it. You will not encounter such a problem when you are using a 12v 100ah lithium RV battery because this type of battery has better rates of discharge. Draining it won’t cause any problem.
When buying a lithium RV battery, make sure that the seller can offer more than just high-quality products—they should also stand behind everything they sell. The best ones test every battery before shipping it out. In the unlikely event that the battery becomes problematic within two years (assuming no misuse, cranking, dropping, opening), they can send you a new one.
